Basement Remodeling
A basement remodeling project can be a terrific way to take an existing unused space and convert it into an extra bedroom, a children's play area, a home theater and more. Take into account the size of the area, the water logging conditions in the Miami, FL area in which you live, and the new use of the basement before you begin finishing your basement. It takes some creativity and a lot of hard work to get a basement from a dank and dark space to a bright and cheerful family room or entertainment center. Basement remodeling is always done to create a new space for leisure, although you can just as easily turn your basement into a home office.
Before you begin looking into paint samples and furniture brochures, get basement water proofing done by a qualified basement remodel contractor. You may also need to install a special sub floor to protect your carpets and rugs from moisture. A lack of installation will quickly develop into moisture problems that are hard to get rid of. If you want to install special electrical or plumbing fittings, these will have to be taken care of too. Colors for your walls should be chosen with a view to brightening the room - no browns or grays.
Before you begin on your basement remodeling project, plant out your floor space to visualize what your finished basement will look like. Changing minds mid way through the project will result in loss of money and time. Also, consider the age of the people who will use the basement most often. For instance, if you are finishing your basement to use as an extra bedroom for your parents when they come to town, you will need a fully outfitted bathroom with a bath tub. If your local building quotes call for an emergency exit for all bedrooms, you will have to provide for this too. Once you have a floor plan for your finished basement, it's easy to design the new space to reflect your tastes.

I have a bathtub/shower combo with some cabinets directly abover it making for a very enclosed space that I would like to completely redo. I envision having the cabintes above the shower/tub gutted and then a new shower/tub with nice large tile and new faucet/shower fixtures and a couple of recessed lights placed in above the bathing space.
